Best book I’ve read this year! I would loudly recommend this book to anyone I might get chatting to on the night bus. Wilhelmina is a deeply sensuous & characterful woman of easy vice & virtue. Her advice on tracking ghosts in the home using a well-placed pin cushion worked a treat! My husband still can’t sit down without wincing. (If I’ve told him once, I’ve told him a thousand times, that crossword in Woman’s Realm is mine!)
Is that the sort of thing you meant, Wilhelmina?

Dr. Wilhelmina Eckerslike
Paranormative Investigator, Queering Historian, Prolific Sexpot, postmortem paparazzo, & Author
Born hurriedly between episodes in a Coronation Street omnibus, but conceived to the oddly-popular strummings of George Formby’s “Leaning On A Lamppost”, young Wilhelmina quickly became fascinated by the supernatural ability of storytellers to create worlds outside of reality into which she could escape the rising popularity and cultural influence of Elvis Presley. She would later use her unique techniques of paranormative investigation to contact the King of Rock n’ Roll in one of her patented “jumpsuit séances”, resulting in the first recorded use of expletives in a message received from the great beyond, in which his unmistakable snarl tells her to “fuck off and get out of [my] jumpsuit”.
In her work today as a leading Paranormative Investigator, Dr. Wilhelmina Eckerslike leads the world in the field of Contra-Normative Phenomena & is engaged in a lifelong mission to create worlds where she can welcome the spectre at the moveable feast, and queer our understanding of history by embodying what she calls “fluctuating fictions”, blurring the lines between “fixed spaces” & “potential futures” using the ghosts of our own stories & identities.
She considers herself a satirist, hugely skeptical of human beings, but tolerant with it, using a distinctive blend of mocking humour, penetrating insight, & calculated outrageousness to summon the “utopian ghost” with which she berates & educates her audiences.
In direct contrast to the hugely esteemed body of work put out by world-renowned parapsychologist & King of the Ghost Hunters, Peter Underwood, during his illustrious career, she has in fact written only one book on the subject of all things supernatural, and exactly 54 books on the life and work of drag superstar, Danny LaRue.
Her self-published & self-proclaimed tribute to Women in the Ethereal Workplace, her latest book (To Banquo’s Ghost or To Not Banquo’s Ghost) offers tips for women navigating the realms of what she calls “the great over’t’yonder”, with tips on how to distinguish between regular paranormative agitations such as poltergeist activity, and the sudden irrational murderous impulse of being told to smile by a middle-aged man, in a chapter called “Know your EVP’s from your HRT’s”.
To Banquo’s Ghost or To Not Banquo’s Ghost: A deep & penetrative exploration of all things sexual in the supernatural, how to tell your cold spots from your hot flashes, from ectoplasm to rectal spasm in 4 easy steps!
