Dragged Up In Doncaster
Dragged Up In Doncaster is the first stages of a practice-led research project (The Rise & Fall of the 20th Century Boy) that plays on histories and personal experiences, geared towards self-discovery & staging multiple facets of identity, with a pedagogical approach to sharing these informations with an audience, assuming the muse of “drag”. The foundations of this work are in bringing levity to the darkness of subjects such as mental health stigma, toxic masculinity, and sexuality and gender. It is a continuation of my practice as a comedic writer, telling stories with explicit honesty and haunting humour, exposing and exploiting collective demons by the means of an existential crisis with punchlines, finding myself and my work resting uncomfortably between the bold glamour and the ridiculous eccentric. This character is the ultimate bouffant bouffon, allow me to introduce your host, Velvet Goldmember.
